With over 50 designers, and more being added, the start-up by IIT professionals, offers you interior decorators, architects and other design professionals on your computer screen (no, they don&rsquo;t have an app, yet).

How it works You can start by filling details about the house/room that needs to be designed. Once you have selected the space, you will need to choose from a list of preset options. For example, for the leaving room, you are asked to choose from rug sizes and number of chairs, sofas, cocktail tables and twig sides, along with a purpose of the area (whether as a family room, space to entertain guests, or to watch TV). For dining room, you are required to select the number of people it will seat, whereas for bedrooms, it&rsquo;s the size of the bed along with comforts like study table, storage, lounge space, dresser etc. You are also required to submit details in terms of lighting in the room, your personal style, feel for the room and choice of fabric.
What&rsquo;s on offer The Houssup team will then appoint a designer, and create a 360-degree video of your project based on your choices along with a budget estimation. If you like the plan, you can go ahead with it, but if you don&rsquo;t, you can easily move on to another designer. Houssup also offers five-year-warranty on complete design.
What we don&rsquo;t like While the options were informative, we would have preferred a more involved choose-your-furniture-kind-of approach with the option to drag and drop items on a room layout. In the name of a tech-driven approach, Houssup has built a Google Web form which even a 10-year-old could do. How about using some of the latest HTML5, CSS3 or Javascript tricks? The company also needs to rework on the user interface of the portal. Though there&rsquo;s a contact form in the home page, we didn&rsquo;t get any response not even a &lsquo;Thank you. We will contact you shortly&rsquo;. There&rsquo;s a Get Started link somewhere in the middle, which takes you to the design form we mentioned earlier, but ideally, it should have been at the top. We would have also preferred a log-in option so that we can track the options we recorded &mdash; or follow the progress in work (if offered). Also, the design form doesn&rsquo;t ask for the room size. So, we are not sure how would a designer work around it.
Our verdict The idea behind Houssup is unique, and will be useful for homeowners. However, it needs some innovative tools to call itself a tech-driven platform for interior designing.
