"Thanks to my textile designing background, I knew people from the field to source the unused cloth from," says Amarnath. "I always wanted to make products, which are sustainable and hence, I made recycling a part of Pink Brown Copper through the Shirt Bags," she adds.
Other than shirt bags, Pink Brown Copper also has a range of basket bags called The Plastics. These bags, which are made of colourful strips of plastic, are made by women in the southern town of Madurai (the hometown of Amarnath's mother) through a traditional method of basket making. "Since they are made of plastic people pick them up for various purposes and they serve as picnic baskets and are also ideal for surfing trips," says Castelino. The bags are available in single and multi-coloured options and have multiple uses as they are convenient enough to take to office or even stuff your toddlers' nappies.
"While researching for our products we found that a lot of people nowadays want something to be kept on the floor for an in-house lounge feel. That's how we came up with our huge cushion covers," explains Castelino. These 36 x 36 inch cushion covers are large enough to be kept as tiny baithaks in your living room. In the pipeline for PBC are home d ufffdcor products.
