But this one time, I do get to know the cargo I am transporting and the credentials of both the sender and the receiver. There are no big fat cheques or bags of money. On the contrary, I had to borrow from the sender to keep me hale and hearty to make this journey. u00a0 There was also no BMW... and the Volvo bus had to suffice (talk about cost cutting!) <img alt="" src="/imagedata/2009/sep/cats.jpg" align="left" border="2" />The day was Saturday. On Friday, I had to prepare myself for the mission. It was a dull rainy day and the contents of the package were absolutely unaware of their fate. The biggest hurdle was sitting in the bus holding the package safely, away from the prying eyes of the driver and passengers. Just imagine the mental and physical preparation that I had to undergo for this mission. But, being a pro, I took this job with ease and was confident of a success. The day finally came. I woke up with a start and looked at my alarm. Oh boy am I dead. It was half past five and I was supposed to wake up at four. Panic started to creep in, as time is the essence for a successful mission. Hurriedly jumped off the bed and called the sender, who was already up with the package in hand, staring at me. I was about to say yes, I do know what you said, but before I could, the familiar sentence erupted, "How many times must I tell to you hit the bed early in the night?" I was lucky to catch an auto and escape possible attacks by killer dogs lurking nearby. Ten minutes later, I reach my selected mode of transportation. There looking majestic in white, stood the massive Volvo. The first job was to get past the driver without the package being noticed. So, I walked up the two steps, held my ticket in hand with confidence that everything is just fine and passed the first test. Deep inside me, I could hear my heart pumping with anticipation fearing the worst to happen. Next job was to find a seat that would attract the least amount of attention in case the contents of the package decided to give me a surprise. For the next two and a half hours, I sat on my seat like I was guarding my own life. I could neither doze off nor pick up conversations with the fellow passengers. I had to be ready for the worst and hence the Spartan in me came alive. What a life! At last, it was ten and I reached my destination. Again, the auto had to be used for city traveling to avoid the prying eyes of friends and family. This mission was classified and there was no way to abort it now. Thirty minutes and a back sore from the humps and bumps later, I reach this awesome apartment complex. The drop was on the 13th floor. Ring, ring, ring went the bell as I kept pressing the bell button continuously. I wonder why I kept doing that when once was quite enough. A good minute later, a man opened the door. With a smile and a firm handshake, I was let in. A lady approached me, looking quite puzzled and curious at the same time on seeing the box in my hand. I look at them, smile and congratulate both on their first wedding anniversary. Wondering what's happening? Well, in the box, lay a small cute little white and gold kitten I had promised the man I would get for his wife. I was a good two weeks late from their first wedding anniversary date but I reckon it was worth the wait. This transporter did have a good yummy finger licking brunch after that.
