There's hope for drought-stricken villages in Maharashtra

Several villages in central Maharashtra are fighting one of the worst droughts since 1972. But, Randullabad and Hiware Bazar ufffd two hamlets have achieved the near-impossible by using rainwater harvesting. There are other stories of success too, of 12 villages that no longer depend on water trucks. On the eve of World Water Day on March 22, Moeena Halim speaks to water conservation experts and real-life heroes ufffd to discover that there is hope yet
Two years ago, the farmers of Gondavle village in Satara district were unable to grow crops because their fields were submerged in water. Fate has been just as cruel to them this year. With no rainfall over the last two years, the villagers are now left with no water to farm.
