The eReading brand Kobe alongwith Ipsos India has conducted a survey on Indian cities and their favourite reading choices and genres The survey showed that Punersquos readers are likely toread short stories and educational titles followed by adventure booksu00a0The Guide decided to speak to publishers book club members and book shop owners about their perspective on the cityrsquos reading choices The Kobe Ipsos survey indicated that Pune readers are more likely to read short stories and educational titles Dr Sachin Bhide founder member of the Business Book Reading Club says ldquoWe meet discuss and read all kinds of business books I feel that people who have a collection of books donrsquot have time to read and vice versa so our group aims to bridge the gap between the twordquo Their 400strong group include s people of all ages ldquoWe have collegegoing students as well as older avid book readers Earlier people used to read a lot of foreign authors when it came to business books but now they have started reading Indian authors as wellrdquo he adds observing that The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman is quite popular and Indian author Subroto Bagchi is prominent for his business books Avinash Pandit senior book editor and avid reader observes that books on health physical fitness and doityourself crafts are trending ldquoBooks pertaining to the IT industry are in demand as well People like to read books on history the same is seen in Marathi books as well Childrenrsquos books with a strong theme do well Work and careeroriented books are read by a lot of youngstersrdquo he states Themebased childrenrsquos books are preferred by kids and their parents Milind Paranjape owner Jyotsna Prakashan states that healthrelated books and fitness books are in vogue and are wellread ldquoPeople also like to read books that are scientific we have books on painters that are liked by a lot of people But reading of classic literature is reducingrdquo Upendra Dixit owner of International Book Services says that fiction rules the market ldquoGeneral interest books are more in trend as well as fictionrdquo IT professional and reader Pariksheet Phuley 30 observes that he likes to read books on health as well as spiritual topics ldquoI also read a lot of autobiographies as well as they inspire me a lotrdquo he states Housewife Aruna Kulkarni 63 reads health books to stay fit ldquoIlove reading a lot and I like reading books that are historical Books on health help me to stay fitrdquo Books that are trending gtgtu00a0Health books gtgtu00a0Todo books gtgtu00a0Weightloss and physical fitness books Agewise gtgtu00a0Children like to read comics but themebased books are also popular gtgtu00a0Youngsters like to read health and career books gtgtu00a0The middleaged and elderly like to read historical works books on fitness and autobiographies Survey findings The Kobe Ipsos survey indicated that 95 of respondents across cities liked to read books or novels regularly followed by newspapers and magazines gtgt 79 respondents considered reading the best source of knowledge gtgtu00a039 respondents thought it is more convenient to read on an eReader than any other digital reading mediumu00a0 Inputs by Swapnal Tilekar
