Guess what? Gordon Ramsey knows how to smile, and the viewer sees a lot of that throughout the 40 minutes of the first episode of the third season of MasterChef US. He can be nice, say good things and of course, curse all along. The set of MasterChef US seems to be taken out of a Hollywood action scene, with its dark alleys, a dingy &lsquo;godown&rsquo; set up accompanied by loud and thunderous background music. That&rsquo;s because like us Indians, Americans love their soap operas and all the drama that comes with it. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/apr/kitchen.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 396px;" /> From (L-R) MasterChef judges Graham Elliot, Gordon Ramsey and Joe Bastianich A plethora of contestants storm through the doors where the three top chefs &mdash; Graham Elliot,Joe Bastianich and Gordon Ramsey &mdash; are starving for some good dishes. In fact, in this first episode, we missed the angry remarks and flamboyant hands flying into the air out of disgust, a USP of the American MasterChef. Ramsay does promise one of the contestants, that if chosen his life &quot;will get harder than you could ever imagine.&rdquo; We believe him. The show has Christine a blind contestant and as viewers, we were really curious to to see how, escorted by her husband John during the selections, she uses the big knives without chopping her teeny finger. Working with her four senses, Christine tastes every ingredient before plating up. &ldquo;How else would I know,&rdquo; she quips. When chef Joe Bastianich tastes her Glazed Catfish, she remarks, &ldquo;I have heard you glare at contestants. Thank god, I&rsquo;ll be saved.&rdquo; The season seems to have got its ingredients right as a whiff of entertainment spreads in the first episode. The interviews with contestants take a good peek into their lives. Michael, a 19-year-old meteorlogy student from Texas, has never used high-end mixer grinders, but he manages to create Chinese Dumplings that he knows are awesome. Do the chefs think the same? The wannabe cooks are always the best part. Ramsay tells on of the contestants, &ldquo;Congratulations,&rdquo; and before completing his sentence she does a victory jig. Complete his sentence he does: &ldquo;&hellip;you have made the worst dish on the show so far!&rdquo; For some it will be the recipes, and for some, the yelling Ramsay and the glaring Joe that will keep them glued to the screen. There&rsquo;s entertainment here for all! The booty is a quarter of a million dollars, a book deal and the MasterChef trophy. While Chef Joe wants to see finesse, Ramsay wants contestants to cook dishes as if their lives depended on it. The pressure test has begun. Are you game?
