A still from the film Matir Moina

Matir Moina (The Clay Bird) is a Bangla film that portrays Anu's life in a madarassa in 1960s East Pakistan. The late director, who passed away in a road accident in August this year, had stated that the film was based on his growing-up years.

Matir Moina was the first-ever Bangladeshi film to be screened at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 2002, where the film bagged the International Critics' Prize as well as the FIPRESCI Prize for Directors' Fortnight.

The film was banned in Bangladesh, initially. However the ban was repealed eventually, and a DVD version of the film was released in 2005.
