Indian arts are revered across the globe but sadly within our country, several art forms are struggling to survive. For those who wish to learn these beautiful forms of our cultural history, workshops at Artisans&rsquo; and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS), have a lot to offer. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/aug/Khadu-Chitrakar---Pattashil.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 831px;" /> Pattashilpi by Khadu Chitrakar Artisans&rsquo; has collaborated with Kala Raksha Vidhyalaya (KRV)-- world&rsquo;s first design school for traditional artisans -- which is based in Kutch, Gujarat, to conduct workshops on Suf embroidery and Kutch Weaving (which happened yesterday), Rabari embroidery, and Patchwork &amp; Applique. Artisan designers from KRV will conduct these workshops. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/aug/artisans.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 672px;" /> A colourful Ralli quilt with its maker in the background &ldquo;The Rabari embroidery fuses threadwork with intricate settings of mirrors to create patterns. The beauty of this embroidery is that they don&rsquo;t draw, they visualise the entire pattern. Initially, this work was done by women to prepare their dowry and better embroiderers equalled to better prospects of marriage,&rdquo; explains Radhi Parekh, founder of Artisans&rsquo;. One of the stitches used in Rabari is also interestingly known as Bavaliyo, which means a bush growing wild. The second workshop is on the Ralli style of patchwork quilting and the Rabari applique work. Also on display and sale are garments co-created by the artisans of KRV and noted designers such as Anju Modi, Anita Lal and Anjana Somany. The workshops at CSMVS have been organised in association with Paramparik Karigar.
