The sixth edition of BAJA SAEINDIA will feature more than 6,500 engineering students from 16 colleges from the city. The 16 teams will compete at the Baja 2013 finale at Indore from February 15 to 17. These teams will represent colleges such as DY Patil College of Engineering, Symbiosis Institute of Technology, MIT Pune, Bharati Vidyapeeth University College Of Engineering and the Pimpri Chinchwad College Of Engineering. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/feb/BAJA-SAEINDIA.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 308px;" /> 16 city colleges have made it to the final round of BAJA SAEINDIA design competition BAJA SAEINDIA aims to be an out-of-classroom-education system where engineering students from all over India can participate as a team, giving them pragmatic exposure to real world challenges as faced in the industry. Prasad Vishwanathan, a student from DY Patil College of Engineering, who is participating in the event said, &ldquo;We had participated last year as well so we started preparing for the event since a long time. We conduct test drives every day for three to four hours. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/feb/engineering-students.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 324px;" /> The competition will allow engineering students to showcase their designs Vishwanathan is the captain of the team. He added that they are trying to bring about innovations in the vehicle this year. &ldquo;We are making it more eco-friendly. I would advise first-timers to keep their vehicle simple.,&rdquo; he said. The qualifying teams were selected through a thorough analysis and comparison of the CAD Designs, the CAE analysis and the designs of suspension, steering and brakes. The entries presented mock-ups that were created with exact specifications by the participants. The teams in the final round will showcase their skills, understanding and passion for automobiles and manufacture their own buggy race car. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/feb/car-drawing.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 309px;" /> The series aims to provide an opportunity for talented engineering students to showcase their passion for automobiles while encouraging them to conceive, design and fabricate four-wheeled single-seater all terrain vehicles. For the shortlist, 262 engineering colleges from across the country had competed against each other in the virtual round, where they presented their designs for the BAJA Buggy vehicle they wish to design for the final event. Pratik Maruti Dighe, a student of MIT College, who is also participating in the race said they practice daily for six to seven hours. &ldquo;We can find all the amenities needed in the city itself. The most important thing is to check the vehicle properly before commencing the race and to ensure that we practice regularly,&rdquo; he said. u00a0
