A wild elephant that fell into an abandoned well at a plantation near here was rescued after hours of effort on Thursday, forest officials said.

According to officials at the Vellikulangara Forest Range Office, the elephant, which was part of a herd, fell into the well at Chokkana, Kundayi, near Palappilly.
