Ready to mingle? A speed dating event, much like Tinder, but offline, promises to find you the perfect match you've been waiting for

Offline speed dating event promises to find you the perfect match

Within an hour you are likely to meet at least eight singles and spend eight minutes with each of them

In this age of dating apps, we found it interesting that Bangalore-based venture Life Of Line (LOL) will be organising a speed dating event in the city, this weekend. Started in September this year, the company hopes to give you a chance to meet people face to face and then decide whether to see them again as opposed to rejecting and accepting online profiles.

"Are you single?" founder Vijendra Dalal asks us without any hesitation. "I started out to help a few friends who were looking for matches and had met close to a hundred people through matrimonial sites, and not managed to find what they were looking for," he shares, adding that once people sign up, the company does a background check through social media and with the help of a detailed form that participants fill out.

Within an hour, you are likely to meet at least eight singles. "No one knows your full name, contact details and where you live. These are details we don’t share unless two people mutually like each other. We also make it clear at the start that no personal questions, particularly ones about a person’s past are to be asked in the eight minutes," says 34-year-old Dalal. "Eight minutes is not enough to say you like a person but it is a lot of time to know that you don’t want to see someone again. To be fair, however, you have to spend eight minutes with each person. So, there’s no more wasting of time on chat, messages and calls for months before you actually meet. On apps, on several occasions, you chat with a person for days, but get disappointed when you meet in person. That doesn't happen here," he adds.

At the event, all the tables are numbered. Men and women take seats as assigned by the LOL hosts. Everyone is given a score card to note down the table number and the candidate’s first name. After the first eight minutes, the LOL host will ring a bell and the men will finish their exchange at the current table and move to the next one. You can then note down yes or no in your scorecard, just like you’d swipe left or right on an online dating app.

The day after the event, participants receive an email with details about mutual matches. "We share contact details and then people meet. On request, we can do an even more thorough background check for those looking for a serious commitment. We are always careful about giving out too much information about women," says Dalal.
