The red rose is said to be the favourite flower of Venus, the Roman goddess of love. Also, red is a colour that signifies strong feelings in all cultures. Doves/Lovebirds In the middle ages, it was believed that doves chose their mates on February 14, which marked the end of winters. The dove is a symbol of Valentine&rsquo;s Day because it is a representative of the Goddess of Love, Venus.
