Instant Regret

When you’re an Emmy Award-winning comedian, getting scammed doesn’t just mean a call to customer care — it means material for 2 million Instagram followers, which is exactly where Vir Das headed after firing up Zepto a few days ago.
Vir needed an Apple Watch in a pinch for a shoot. He paid nearly R50,000 expecting premium tech, but instead received an unsealed box containing a sketchy, knockoff piece that looked less Cupertino and more local flea market.
Vir Das
Taking to Instagram, Vir tagged the platform and its co-founder, Kaivalya Vohra, asking, “Am I wrong or is @zeptonow running China scam? ...Do all Apple watches look like this? Please tell. I’ve never used one.”
Naturally, the internet did what it does best. While Vir was busy getting 10-minute delivery on a 100 per cent counterfeit, one commenter hilariously dubbed the bootleg device the ‘Zapple’ Watch.
Dark store scam, delivery issue, or something else entirely, it is now up to Zepto to fix this high-profile PR nightmare. Meanwhile, two things are clear. One, lightning-fast fulfilment sometimes delivers instant regret. And, two, even when Vir Das is the butt of the joke, he’s still the one walking away with the punchline.

From Paris With Love

If your Tuesday morning required a heavy dose of cross-continental FOMO, look no further than Paris. Natasha Poonawalla spent the weekend playing the world’s chicest third wheel to Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos, and trust me, the trio wasn’t hitting up the Accor Arena for the sumo tournament there. Exceptional heavyweights from Japan definitely weren’t on the menu — instead, they opted for the far more refined air of the Cheval Blanc Paris and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.
Lauren Sanchez and Natasha Poonawalla
Formally, the Amazon founder is in the French capital to share his grand vision of space and AI at VivaTech 2026. Informally, it’s just another high-octane weekend for the ultimate billionaire besties.
Of course, the bond between Natasha and Lauren is well-documented elite lore. From Poonawalla turning heads as the premier Indian guest at the couple’s spectacular Venetian nuptials, to her holding court alongside Hollywood royalty during Lauren’s legendary Parisian bachelorette weekend, this isn’t just an acquaintance — it’s an inner-circle fixture. Between front-row seats at Haute Couture weeks and casual Euro-summer superyacht hops, they have perfected the art of jet-setting synergy. So, while Bezos handles the tech talk, the ladies are handling the real curriculum: watch and yearn.

Twin Celebration

Elsewhere in the Poonawalla universe, Delna Poonawalla celebrated her birthday in twin style alongside sister Simone last week. The duo hosted a glittering soirée that was equal parts glamour and sisterhood, raising a toast to “another year of happiness, sparkle and love.”

The occasion was the perfect excuse to dress up, gather their favourite people, dance the night away, and create memories destined to be talked about for years.
Among those joining the celebrations at their sea-facing South Mumbai residence were Rashmi Nigam (resplendent in sequins), Aarti and Kailash Surendranath, Lata Patel, and filmmaker Mozez Singh. Delna, by her own admission, wrapped up the evening with a full heart and an even fuller camera roll — a fitting end to a night defined by laughter, love, and lots of Yin and Yang-inspired cake.

Beard To Believe It!

A month ago, we were celebrating a nomination. Today, Mumbai has something far better to savour: a James Beard Media Award win.

Mumbai: A Journey Through Its Kitchens, Streets, and Stories has triumphed on one of food media’s grandest stages, earning international recognition for its extraordinary visual storytelling. And while writer Rushina Munshaw Ghildiyal’s evocative essays provide the soul of the book, this particular honour rightly belongs to the creative visionaries behind the lens and layout.
Photographer Bhavya Pansari and designer Nandini Thirani are the ones who have brought home the Beard, their stunning work transforming Mumbai’s food culture into a visual love letter that is as lush, layered and irresistible as the city itself. Equal credit goes to Sri Bodanapu and Heirloom Cities, whose ambition and perseverance turned an audacious idea into an award-winning reality.

For a city that is so often described through its flavours, this victory proves that Mumbai photographs beautifully too. The world has always known we have great stories to tell. Now it knows we tell them rather spectacularly. Take a bow, ladies. This is delicious news.
