A League of his own

In a family where power moves are traditionally made across political corridors and campaign trails, Sadanand and Supriya Sule’s son, Vijay, is carving out an arena entirely his own. The affable 24-year-old has just signed with BC Tbilisi BTB, a fresh entrant in the Armenian Pro Basketball A League — adding another stamp to a breathless year on the court that has already seen him play in Lithuania and Thailand.

He is currently back in Mumbai, catching his breath before duty calls: he flies out to Armenia this November, which means sitting out Diwali at home. “I can’t remember the last time I’ve been home for Diwali,” says the University of St Andrews grad, sharing the story of how his hoop dreams took shape early, on the grounds of The Cathedral and John Connon School. Though he kicked off with football at eight, basketball claimed him at 12. “In school they made you choose one sport, and I chose basketball,” he confesses. “I started just because my friends were playing, but it became clear soon enough that this is what I really wanted to do.”
While studying at NYU last year, Vijay tested the waters at the NBA’s developmental league try-outs, but his sights remained firmly set across the Atlantic. “I knew America would be hard to crack, and Europe is the second largest market for basketball,” he explains pragmatically.
Beyond his overseas stints, Vijay is already laying roots back home. Two years ago, he set up a basketball academy in Pune, with plans to bring the setup to Mumbai in the near future. And while high-stakes politics may be the family trademark, his focus is strictly on the hardwood. Standing at 6’2”, Supriya’s son laughs off the inevitable occupational hazard: “I’m always the shortest person on my teams,” he tells yours truly. Short on his rosters, perhaps, but standing remarkably tall on the Indian basketball scene.

Birthday Splash

When in Goa, the only acceptable dress code is poolside casual, and Nicolo Morea’s October 25 celebrations kept strictly to the brief. ‘Nic’ marked another trip around the sun surrounded by an intimate circle of friends and a gluttony of cake, with brother Dino Morea in the mix and a handful of the boys suitably kitted out in swimwear for the coastal revelry.

Right by Nic’s side, all smiles, was ladylove Adhuna Bhabani. The celebrated hairstylist and founder of more than one iconic salon chain has long been one of Indian beauty’s sharpest trailblazers. Today, when she isn’t travelling across the country in her role as the artistic director for Italian haircare label Davines in India, the couple embraces a breezy, sun-drenched pace of life in their Goan haven.
Beyond coastal living, the duo has channelled their shared affinity for conscious wellness into entrepreneurship. Together, they have co-founded Gutsy — a gut-loving, artisanal yoghurt dessert that has been generating plenty of quiet buzz, though one we have yet to sample ourselves. Between wholesome ventures, breezy afternoons, and sweet indulgences, Nicolo and Adhuna certainly know how to curate the quintessential seaside milestone.

History on a plate

On Monday evening in Lower Parel, framed by hand-knotted rugs and the scent of fresh marigolds, an exclusive dinner unfolded less like a restaurant service and more like an archival reading.
To mark 11 years of culinary research and revival under Charoli Foods, chef Anuradha Joshi Medhora gathered 32 guests — including Dia Mirza, Vaibhav Rekhi, Diana Penty, Rashmi Uday Singh, Gauri Devidayal, and Amrita Bagchi — for an ambitious 11-course feast. Medhora, whose work sits at the intersection of culinary anthropology, courtly history, and regional storytelling, wove an evening that drew disparate geographies onto a single table.

Rather than adhering to borders, the menu leaned into unexpected historical collisions. A standout course linked the maritime spice trade of Kerala’s Arakkal dynasty with the arid court of Jodhpur’s Rathores: a delicate coastal achappam layered with earthy moong, smoky fermented Mathania chilli, and a sharp, European-inflected whisper of Gorgonzola — a speculative, seamless dialogue between coast and desert.
From royal banquets to overlooked community pantries, Medhora approaches heirloom recipes not as museum relics, but as living cultural inheritances. For the intimate room gathered that night, the evening was a quiet, potent reminder of just how deep India’s kitchen archives run.

Friends in fashion

Some fashion alliances are forged on the runway, but the rarest ones simply stand the test of time without making a song and dance about it. When Surily Goel returned from design school in the US all those years ago, she cut her teeth under Manish Malhotra before carving out her own bohemian-glam aesthetic.

Decades later, that friendship (far more than a mentor-mentee bond) remains as steadfast as ever — evidenced by Manish opening up his home to host an intimate gathering marking her milestone birthday this week. The guest list was a tight-knit slice of Mumbai warmth and quiet glamour: Alvira and Atul Agnihotri, Yash and Avanti Birla, and Shaina NC, all raising a toast away from the glare of flashing cameras.

Naturally, this wasn’t the only celebration on the calendar — other private soirees have quietly marked the occasion across town. In classic Surily fashion, the festivities have stayed strictly under wraps — though naturally, a few whispers always find their way to my ears. Whether they ever make it from my ears to my pen, of course, is an entirely different story.

“I started just because my friends were playing, but it became clear soon enough that this is what I really wanted to do.”
