Pair Excellence

Sweet like Ladoo, but way cooler — Genelia and Riteish Deshmukh bring their effortless charm to the film’s screening in Bandra on Wednesday.

Standing Tall

Tarun Tahiliani has never been one to follow the script, and at his India Couture Week show, he rewrote it yet again. Rolling into New Delhi’s Bikaner House in a wheelchair after recent heel surgery, the couturier proved resilience is the ultimate accessory.
Tarun Tahiliani
Rising to address the audience, he declared he wasn’t about to “zip it” despite his place in the public eye, throwing his weight behind Gen Z’s spirit of questioning and calling for a renewed way of looking at India, “as Indians for Indians.” It was vintage Tarun: equal parts conviction and couture.
Accepting with characteristic humour that he is now a “Bionic Man” — complete with a hip replacement, screws in his heel and enough metal to set off airport alarms — Tahiliani confessed he was back at his desk within days of surgery because, as he puts it, work is the only antidote to pain. Fittingly, his Navaratna presentation slowed fashion’s frantic pace, championing comfort, craftsmanship and the belief that true luxury is meant to be lived in, not merely admired. On Sunday, Tarun reminded everyone that true style isn’t just about what you wear — it’s also about what you stand for.

The Versova Club

Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma may have grabbed headlines on Tuesday with their new sea-facing Versova address, but they’re not the first stars to spot the charm of this corner of Mumbai.

Tabu got there earlier, reportedly picking up a residence in the same premium development — meaning future elevator encounters here could have the makings of a rather unexpected ensemble cast.

This growing celebrity presence is also a small signal of a larger shift: Versova is quietly stepping out from the shadow of Mumbai’s traditional old-money neighbourhoods. A sea view, a sleek tower, and a little less Malabar Hill baggage? The city’s elite may just be developing new tastes — much to the horror of the heritage-address purists.

Fringe Benefits

Koel Purie Rinchet knows a thing or two about navigating life’s curveballs and, like any true artiste, she channels the grit straight into her art. In 2023, the actor-author penned Mummy’s Dead, Long Live Mummy! — a deliciously dark comedy that completely dismantles the glossy, manicured myths of motherhood through the stories of four very distinct women. Balancing razor-sharp wit with some deeply uncomfortable truths, the production premiered in Paris before making the rounds through Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru, where it absolutely charmed the cultural circuit.

Now, the journey heads straight to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, with six performances slated between August 24 and 29. “It’s a massive, prestigious platform,” Koël tells yours truly, noting the festival’s legendary knack for catapulting productions to global fame — Fleabag being just one of its many spectacular alumni.
The ambition here isn’t just a successful run; Koël hopes to ignite a genuine movement — sparking candid conversations around motherhood, much like The Vagina Monologues did for women’s lived experiences. And it seems to be striking quite the nerve. At her last show in Bengaluru, the audience spontaneously started responding to the characters mid-scene, despite it not being billed as an interactive experience. “The jugalbandi was electric,” she recalls.
Naturally, taking a show to the Fringe is no small logistical feat. Even with generous backing from her steadfast supporters, a funding gap remains, prompting Purie to take the modern crowdfunding route. “With 4,179 and counting shows at the festival, one will need to do what it takes to stand out,” she notes. But if the buzz on our own shores is anything to go by, Mummy’s Dead, Long Live Mummy! is already doing exactly that.

Sharing Sunshine

A casual lunch at Bastian Ammakai turned into a heartwarming little moment on Wednesday, thanks to Alvira Khan Agnihotri. As she stepped out of the buzzing Bandra restaurant with husband Atul, Alvira was approached by two young children asking for money. Rather than simply reaching for her wallet and handing over cash, she chose a more thoughtful way to bring a smile to their faces.

Walking them into the store next door, Alvira let the tots pick out toys of their choice. Their excitement was impossible to miss — for a brief moment, it felt like Christmas had arrived early, with Santa showing up in sunshine yellow.
Usually one to keep a low profile, Salman Khan’s sister — ‘Baby’ to friends and family — put her warmth on full display, leaving the little ones overjoyed. Clearly, generosity runs in the family, and kindness speaks for itself. This time, two young children got to experience it firsthand — and their unfiltered joy said more than our words ever could.
