Traffic stopper!

Dressed down in denim, but never cutting corners on glam, Sonakshi Sinha brings immaculate polish to Khar on Tuesday.

Meta-Morphosis

There was a time when talent representation meant begging editors for column inches and orchestrating convenient table-side leaks. Now, managing an A-lister reads less like Bollywood power-brokering and more like high-stakes digital sanitation.
Those in the know tell yours truly that half their working day is squandered playing hall monitor across Meta’s labyrinthine reporting portals. One moment you are issuing takedown notices for algorithmic hallucinations — uncanny AI deepfakes manufacturing scandalous indiscretions out of pure ether — and the next, extinguishing the intrusive voyeurism of a neighbour armed with a telephoto lens. Because apparently, pruning one’s balcony bougainvillea on a private sea-facing terrace is now fair game for opportunistic scavengers with a view.
The tragic irony is staggering. Managers once burned through Rolodexes (remember those?) to make their clients visible; today, with every suburban peeping tom moonlighting as a pap and synthetic media fabricating whole lives unprompted, the only real currency left to fight for is the vanishing luxury of privacy.

Vir Das
Last week, Vir Das landed his third International Emmy nomination, and while that’s reason enough to toast, his red-carpet game plan is what really steals the show. Instead of dialling Milan, or Manish Malhotra for that matter, the stand-up star is crowdsourcing his Emmy threads straight from India’s heartland.
Taking to social media, he dropped an open call over the weekend: “Attention new designers and their friends. Spread the word.” The brief? “Black-tie level formal, loaded with Indian local. Nothing too loud.”
This isn’t Vir’s first rodeo with crowdsourcing, but this time the filter is tighter. Over 30? Disqualified. Based in one of India’s top five metros? Sorry, Mumbai — you’re benched. He wants undiscovered talent outside the usual fashion echo chambers, armed with concepts spotlighting indigenous craft and local artisans.
Best of all, there’s no predatory ‘paid in exposure’ nonsense. The winner collaborates directly with Vir’s team, gets full red-carpet credit, and — crucially — gets paid too.
A masterclass in leveraging a global platform, Vir isn’t just walking the carpet — he’s taking India’s grassroots brilliance along for the ride.

One to watch

If anyone knows how to turn a high-stakes auction room into an extension of couture week, it’s Natasha Poonawalla.
On Monday night in central London, Phillips hosted an electric gathering of the global elite for the landmark auction of four unique, gem-set Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytonas. With each timepiece capturing a season in rare stones and precious metals, the room crackled with competitive energy, ultimately hammering down an eye-watering £37.3 million for Leonardo DiCaprio’s Re:wild and the Roger Federer Foundation.
Natasha arrived impeccably styled in Schiaparelli, armed with her Chanel pomegranate minaudière — a witty, symbolic nod to renewal and good fortune that turned heads among the front rows. Settling in among the crowd, she shared floor space with rock royalty: Mick Jagger holding court, and Jon Bon Jovi, who had just spent the previous afternoon courtside at the Laver Cup alongside DiCaprio and Roger Federer before heading straight into Monday’s bidding frenzy. From the rostrum, Phillips’ Aurel Bacs orchestrated pure theatre — at one point dangling private tennis lessons with Federer to fuel the room’s pulse. Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary was overheard calling it the most exciting auction in watch history, and the fever pitch delivered.
For Natasha, who championed the night as the ultimate intersection of art, fashion, and serious planetary impact, it was another seamless appearance in the world’s most rarefied rooms — purposeful, razor-sharp, and right at the centre of the action.

70 years of sparkle

While Ranbir Kapoor was out playing to the gallery — obliging paps with pictures and waving to hordes of cheering fans stationed outside his Bandra building — his aunt, Rima Jain, enjoyed an entirely different scene on their shared September 28 birthday. Rima marked her milestone 70th with an intimate soiree hosted alongside husband Manoj at their South Mumbai residence.
Expectedly, the ambience was warm and nostalgic, decorated with cheerful balloons and candid photos chronicling 70 years well lived. Dressed in a rich, jewel-toned top adorned with exquisite Gara embroidery, the birthday girl embraced the fuss with good humour — happily sporting a playful tiara and birthday sash (albeit briefly).
Guests made their way through an enviable spread of cakes and canapes, with her sons and daughters-in-law at the centre of the festivities: Armaan and Anissa, alongside Aadar and Alekha, who gifted her a heartfelt keepsake book filled with cherished family photos and meaningful messages.
The room held a tight-knit mix of family and close confidantes. Karisma Kapoor arrived to celebrate her beloved bua, while sister-in-law Neetu Kapoor came by to raise a toast. Longtime friends joined in the revelry as well, including Tina Ambani, Devaunshi Mehta, and Supriya Sule, accompanied by her husband, Sadanand. Far from the flashbulbs and clamour of the streets, it was an evening of laughter, timeless memories, and quiet Kapoor warmth.
