The summer holidays are getting over soon and you might want to make the best of it. So, pack your bags and get going on a backpack or a planned trip this season. Get your group together, surf the internet, chalk out your itinerary and get going. Here’s the experts’ take on the best destinations to head to:

Nishitta Ghaatge from Sun Tourism states that this summer, domestic tourism has picked as compared to the international sector because of the high dollar rates. “The domestic sector has seen a high for destinations like Bhutan, Sikkim, Darjeeling, Leh and Ladakh. Bhutan has picked up a lot this season due to its beautiful culture and its pleasant weather. Internationally, Paris, Switzerland and Dubai top the charts,” says Ghaatge.

Interestingly, the Amarnath Yatra is also getting popular with youngsters, adds Ghaatge. “It is accessible and helicopters have made it easier for people to visit. We are hoping the dollar rates come down and travelling internationally becomes cheaper.”

Sharat Dhall, President, Yatra.com, states that over the years, the profile of the Indian traveller has changed. Earlier, it was only families that travelled on annual breaks, but lately, there are younger travellers, in their 20s and early 30s, who do so. “They typically take a number of small breaks in the year. Goa, Kochi and Kerala are popular domestic destinations while Dubai, Thailand, Malaysia and Bali are at the top of the list when it comes to international destinations.”

An expert from Hotels.com shares that hotels like Taj Malabar in Kochi, Alila Diwa in Goa, Wildflower Hall in Shimla, Kumarakom Lake Resort in Kumarakom and Kurumba Village Resort in Coonoor are very popular. Asian destinations such as Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Pattaya, Phuket, London, New York, Las Vegas and Dubai are also preferred destinations for Indians travelling overseas.
