A long distance motorcycle trip gives travellers the time and freedom to explore different locations at leisure, without spending a fortune yet getting the opportunity to check out different locations as you make your way to the final destination.

Since your motorbike is the only means of transport on such trips, we suggest a few tips that will help you have a smooth ride.

Get an authorised mechanic to examine your bike and to certify that it's ready for a long trip. Replace or repair any part that appears worn out.

Don't take off on a road trip, without examining the condition of your tires. Make sure they are inflated properly and can withstand pressure in case of excess load.

Change the oil and filter. If you do not remember the size oil filter and type of oil the motorcycle requires, write it down on a small card and place it in your wallet. You may have to replace the filter or add oil while you are on your trip, depending on how many kilometres you intend to cover.

Carry a map along, go over possible routes, and make note of places you want to explore. Also, don't select a
route that does not have frequent service stations.

Examine the motorcycle daily before heading out as mechanical failures are common and it's best not to take a risk.
