As Indians get ready to make the most of the Independence Day long weekend, there are many who are looking to spend time at home with their friends and family as they unwind.

Those who are more adventurous are travelling to nearby destinations, while others opt for longer vacations. Among the mix, Goa still seems to be a favourite weekend getaway for most of them, according to new insights.

Interestingly, Goa is followed by Udaipur, Jaipur, Puri, Lonavala, Varanasi, Coorg, Mahabaleshwar, Ooty and Pondicherry within India, according to Rajesh Magow, co-founder and group CEO of travel platform, MakeMyTrip.

He further explains, "“Independence Day has emerged as a key travel occasion over the years. This year too, the search and booking trends point to strong intent to travel over the Independence Day weekend. With Independence Day on a Friday, travel demand, appears to be peaking two days earlier, on Wednesday, August 13, giving early travellers a five-day window.”

Interestingly, the insights have further found that the top ten most trending international cities include Pattaya, Bali, Bangkok, Singapore, Dubai, Phuket, Colombo, Kuala Lumpur, Zurich and London.
