Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday said Him-<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/chandigarh-four-schools-receive-bomb-threat-emails-searches-yield-no-explosives-23644237" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Chandigarh City</a> in Solan district would be developed as a modern and sustainable urban centre with state-of-the-art infrastructure and essential civic amenities.
He made the remarks after reviewing the progress of the proposed city in the Baddi area of Solan district.
Sukhu said the state government would commence the development of the new city shortly and directed the concerned officers to expedite all necessary formalities to ensure<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/punjab-cm-slams-amit-shah-over-announcement-to-apply-central-service-rules-to-chandigarh-ut-employees-23220365" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener"> timely execution of the project.</a>
The proposed city will be located at Shitalpur in the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh industrial belt of Solan district, about 30 km from Chandigarh.
So far, 3,428 bighas of land have already been allotted for housing. In addition, officials had informed earlier that approximately 5,000 to 6,000 bighas of land from the common pool have also been identified.
The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/chandigarh-mayoral-polls-black-day-for-countrys-democracy-says-punjab-cm-bhagwant-mann-23332581" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">chief minister </a>said that Him-Chandigarh City would be developed as a modern, well-planned and sustainable urban centre equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and essential civic amenities.
He directed the officials to explore all possibilities for ensuring planned, sustainable and balanced development of the proposed city.
He also directed that a well-developed 9 km riverfront along the Sarsa River be incorporated into the project to enhance the city's aesthetic appeal and provide residents with a clean, attractive and recreational public space.
He further emphasised the need to ensure robust and<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/chandigarh-power-outage-telcos-using-alternate-sources-to-power-sites-exchanges-23215608" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener"> efficient road connectivity </a>to and from the proposed city for seamless movement and better accessibility.
Sukhu said the proposed city would not only cater to growing urban needs but also generate economic activity and contribute significantly to the state's revenue.&nbsp;
