Located roughly 250 kms from Mumbai, and beside Khopiwali village near Murbad in the west, and the Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary towards the east, Ahupe Ghat is a picturesque pass that connects the two areas. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/jul/Ahupe-Ghat3_1.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 641px;" /> Ahupe Ghat. A monsoon-hike to this uniquely preserved natural habitat has been organised by VRangers on July 7. The route is picturesque, narrow and takes you through paddy fields, streams, a thick forest, culminating in a climb over the top to the beautiful plateau of Ahupe. What makes this journey more special is that Ahupe is a little-known destination for hiking making it attractive, and isolated from crowds of trekkers. Ahupe village is known for its unique flora and fauna including the Indian Giant Squirrel that are found in plenty around here. Another major attraction around the tribal village that falls within the boundary of Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary is the Ahupe waterfall, the view from the top of which is matchless in monsoon. The group will meet at Kalyan ST Stand, proceed to Murbad by bus, from where they will take a local vehicle to Khopiwali village.
