With rising fuel costs, carpooling makes for a viable option. Tripda.in is a new technology platform that aims to facilitate carpooling. Through its mobile and web app, they match drivers offering rides, to passengers looking to go the same way. Founded in 2014, they already have a presence in North America, Latin America and Asia.

With this app, once you&rsquo;ve determined your destination, you can pick your travel companion based on factors like the amount that you wish to pay, past reviews from travellers, and their travel preferences (e.g. whether they like to talk or not, car comfort, their taste in music, etc.).
While Tripda focuses on long-distance carpooling, the platform also helps those who want to carpool for shorter distances like going to college or work. They claim to have built multiple layers of security so that both drivers and passengers feel safe while sharing a ride. They even have a ladies-only option for women travellers.
Global co-founder and CEO Pedro Meduna mentions that he and co-founder Eduardo Prota grew up in the European countryside and moved to a larger city to study and work. To get from point A to point B, they had to rely on friends who would be travelling the same way. &ldquo;During my studies, I went to Germany where I saw existing platforms for carpooling (it is a common travel option in Europe).
Later, Eduardo and I lived in the US for a while where we saw how developed the sharing economy had become. We met with Rocket Internet, who shared our view of the potential for a carpooling platform in other markets. As a result, we decided to partner and launch Tripda.&rdquo;
To avail of the service, you need a Facebook account and an Internet connection. You can register with your Facebook account and choose if you wish to find or offer a ride, enter your destination and when you&rsquo;d like to travel. Nitish Bhushan, country manager, Tripda.in reiterates how it benefits the user, &ldquo;It helps save money by reducing the costs of a bus/train/air ticket and reduces the number of empty cars on the roads.&rdquo;
Plus the service is sure to bring down travel costs by dividing it among travellers equally, reducing fuel costs considerably. It&rsquo;s environment-friendly due to the fact that it reduces emissions and thus the carbon footprint, Bhushan emphasises.
