Bombay Salad Co. Food: Tasty Service: Attentive Ambiance: Vibrant
Looks can be deceptive, and Bombay Salad Co., the newly-opened eatery stacked between shops in a Bandra lane, is a prime example of that. Though its setting is slightly cramped, the eatery makes up with its menu that offers a plethora of options for salad lovers. For those who feel salads don&rsquo;t make a meal (us included) it will make you do a rethink.

With over 10 varieties of vegetarian and non-vegetarian salads on offer along with sandwiches, wraps, desserts, smoothies and juices as well as a special soup of the day, we were spoilt for choice. Boasting a long salad bar, the eatery also offers a &lsquo;Make your own salad&rsquo; option where one can select from a long list of ingredients, from brown rice and barley to fruits, grilled prawns and dressings like the oil-free Tahini Yoghurt Dressing. With a choice of two portions (small and large), some of the salads on the menu are served warm and a few are marked with hearts that indicate &lsquo;Chef&rsquo;s Favourite&rsquo;. The best part: The much-generic Caesar Salad features nowhere on the menu.

After much deliberation, we settled for small portions of The Samurai (Rs 215) and The Goan (Rs 225) and called for Grilled Chicken and Avocado Sandwich (you also get the same dish as a wrap that&rsquo;s made using spinach). The Samurai, a warm vegetarian salad, comprised mix lettuce, soba noodles, teriyaki tofu, grilled mushrooms, broccoli and peanuts with spicy soy ginger dressing. While the grilled mushrooms and the dressing added an earthy flavour to the soft tofu and the noodles, the peanuts and lettuce added to the crunch. However, the salad could&rsquo;ve done without broccoli flowers.

The Goan came packed with fava beans, Goan pork chorizo, grilled zucchini, peppers, tomato and bocconcini with rosemary balsamic vinaigrette. Living up to its name, this warm salad was a burst of colours and flavours. The delicate dressing blended well with the tiny, succulent pieces of pork sausages and the tossed veggies added to the taste. Result: the whole bowl was polished off within minutes.
Meanwhile, The Grilled Chicken and Avocado Sandwich (Rs 295) was a hearty mix of feta cheese, roquette leaves and chicken &mdash; a tad chewy &mdash; with Tapenade on the side. For dessert, we picked Fresh Fruit, Berry Yoghurt, Muesli (Rs 195). The sweet-and-sour yoghurt sprinkled with strawberries and crunchy muesli was delectable. While we found the sandwiches overpriced, the salads were definitely value-for-money and made for a wholesome meal. The healthiest way to purge the party binge this New Year, we say!
