Dreadout released in 2013, this indie horror game by Digital Happiness reigned on the Internet and became one of the most played games in the genre. This third-person supernatural horror game takes place in an old abandoned town where you play the character of Linda, a high-school student. A smartphone and an SLR camera in hand, she battles terrifying beings and solves mysterious puzzles which determine her fate. The game explores a haunted town in Indonesia, considering its Indonesian origins. In the engaging storyline, one can switch to different POVs that make for a horrifying endeavour as Linda negotiates her way through to her fate.
Platforms PC (Windows, Steam)

Visage not your typical jump-scare menagerie, Visage is known to mess with people’s heads owing to realistic settings, and relies heavily on creating horror through the environment. The game is set inside a 1980s-fashioned house where unimaginable horrors await the player. The storyline is gripping to the point where it blurs the world of the game, and the reality of our TV room. Saying that this game sticks with you is an understatement. It is innovative in that the events are randomly activated and your own choices will lead you to different endings.
Platforms PC (Windows), PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Soma the futuristic setting at an underwater research facility makes this a standout game, as strange occurrences begin and machines take on human traits, trapping the people aboard in a waking nightmare. It is played from a first-person perspective and utilises the element of psychological horror as the character progresses through the plot by solving puzzles, exploration and stealth. The story, atmosphere, sound design and voice acting make for an overall engaging experience.”
Platforms PC (Windows, Linux, OS X), PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Resident Evil Series Resident Evil is a classic, and is one of world’s best-selling video game franchises. It’s been a major pop-culture influence in film and television too. The game is set around a fictional mid-western American city with several bio-engineering laboratories which develop viruses intended for biological warfare. The survival horror story allows for first-person shooter and third-person shooter gameplay. This game has helped garner the survival horror and third-person shooter genre. Its characters are immortal in that they have long been a part of pop-culture with live-action films, game sequels, a multitude of spin-offs and Netflix having developed a web series. The recent release of Resident Evil Village has been a success despite facing tough competition from other games in the genre.
Platforms PC, PlayStation 4 (Evil Village on PlayStation 5 as well), Xbox One (and Series X)
