Jazzed up
Isheeta Chakravarty, jazz singer, recommends: The Quarter, The Little Door, Finch, Veranda "It's a great time to be a live musician in Mumbai right now. Every new venue in the city has a dedicated jazz night, which provides us an opportunity to test our skills. The Quarter at Royal Opera House, for instance, is a new place that people have been raving about.

Then there's The Little Door in Andheri, which hosts jazz nights every Tuesday. The Finch in Andheri East is also great. You also have Bandra Bass, a tiny place dedicated purely to music, without any alcohol even.

Veranda in Pali Hill has late-night jazz on Saturdays. Bonobo in Bandra, too, sets aside one Wednesday a month for jazz. That's a lot of places."
As solid as rock
Neil Chowdhury, film producer, recommends: Toto's Garage and The Ghetto "I have been frequenting these two places for years. Toto's in Bandra plays more of the Pearl Jam and Pink Floyd variety, while The Ghetto in Breach Candy plays a lot of The Doors."
Dhruv Sarker, professional drummer, recommends: The Stables "This venue in Andheri East has started hosting live music performances, and many of the bands there play rock songs."
Switch on to electronica
Ayudh Roy, film producer, recommends: Razzberry Rhinoceros, antiSOCIAL and Summer House Café "Razzberry Rhinoceros in Juhu is a great place for electronic gigs. It's one of those few places in the city where you feel free, with the sky above your head.
In fact, I am heading there right now. But it all depends on my mood — if I feel like going to an underground bunker, I would then go to antiSOCIAL in Khar. Summer House Café, Lower Parel, is another indoor venue I like."
Pop into the mood
Donn Bhatt, musician, recommends: Citizen Hotel "I like the music they play at this Juhu venue, because they have '80s pop like David Bowie, which I was incidentally listening to last night."
Viraag Desai, painter, recommends:âu00c2u0080u00c2u0088Tryst and Playboy Club "Pop is usually played where 18-year-olds go. Tryst in Lower Parel, for instance, was playing Justin Bieber when I went there once. It's the sort of place where the guests look like they are drinking for the first time in their lives. I am 31, and went with a bunch of 21-year-olds, who, ironically, were complaining about everyone being too young. Then there's Playboy Club in Worli as well."
