It ain’t over till the fat lady sings. That adage sits well with the plot of Mare of Easttown, a recently launched web series that puts you on the edge of your seat. I kept predicting the end and the writers kept making me think that I had pre-empted the plot till, bam! The last episode revealed their cards and the bluff they had pulled. But if there is one person who carries this show on her shoulders, it’s Kate Winslet. She plays Mare, a detective in a poverty-stricken, drug-addled suburban American town who would rather put her interpersonal relationships at stake than compromise on the quality of her investigations. Work is thus worship for her, to end with another apt adage.
