The Palghar police in Maharashtra have arrested a man for allegedly being found with stolen batteries worth Rs 14.41 lakh in Palghar district, a police official said on Thursday, according to the PTI.

The news agency reported, Naveen Kamti was held on October 2 and 1,545 batteries were recovered from him, Valiv police station senior inspector Jairaj Ranavare said.

"The Aurangabad-based battery manufacturing firm had given him the consignment for delivery but he misappropriated it for illegal sale. A case was filed by the company in Shivpur police station there," he said, as per the PTI.

Meanwhile, in an another incident, the Pydhonie police have nabbed a 28-year-old man who allegedly stole Rs. 10 lakhs from a wholesale shop, the police said on Wednesday.

According to the police, the matter had come to light when the shop owner approached the police to register an FIR against an unknown individual on September 15.

"The alleged accused had forcibly entered the shop on the night of September 15, around 1.30 am. Initially, he broke the exhaust fan and then proceeded to break the grill, making off with Rs. 10 lakhs before fleeing the scene," said Ravindra Kudapkar, Senior Police Inspector of Pydhonie Police Station.

It was revealed that the accused had allegedly conducted a recce before committing the crime.

"He had conducted a recce earlier, and on September 15, due to heavy rainfall, no one heard the noise he made while breaking in," the official added.

After reviewing the CCTV footage from the shop and nearby areas, the police identified the accused as Saidul Shaikh (28).

Subsequently, the police travelled to Saidul Shaikh's hometown in Rajmahal, Jharkhand, and apprehended him on October 1. "Following a technical investigation and a review of our records, a team led by Sub Inspector Sankalp Mokal went to Jharkhand and apprehended him," the official said.

The police found it relatively easy to identify the alleged accused as he had 16 other cases registered against him across the city.

During the apprehension, the police seized a mobile phone worth Rs. 50,000 from the accused, as it is alleged that he purchased the phone using the stolen money. However, the police are still trying to determine where he concealed the remainder of the stolen money. "We did not find any cash at his residence in Jharkhand," he further said.

Saidul Shaikh has been booked under sections 454 (lurking in house or housebreaking), 380 (Theft), and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
