Two persons including a teenager was electrocuted in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-crime-man-held-with-1545-stolen-batteries-worth-rs-14-lakh-in-palghar-23312726" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Palghar district of Maharashtra</a> on Thursday morning while catching crabs, a civic official said, according to the PTI.
The news agency reported, the two identified as Dinesh Bos (22) and Sujit Maskar (16) died after they allegedly came in contact with a <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-senior-citizen-dies-of-electrocution-in-palghar-23311637" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">live wire</a> kept to trap pigs, District Disaster Management Cell chief Vivekanand Kadam said.
"The incident took place at 9:30am in Nandore Baswatpada village when the duo was catching crabs. Police has registered a case and are probing the incident," the civic official said, according to the PTI.&nbsp;
Meanwhile, in an another incident last week, a 74-year-old woman died after being electrocuted by a live wire during the Ganpati visarjan at Nalasopara. Police stated that during visarjan, the woman accidentally contact with a live wire hanging on the road, leading to her death.&nbsp;
The 74-year-old victim, identified as Jyanti Devrao Mhatre, was a resident of Gaiwadi area near Devi Wasi in Nalasopara. Following the incident, the police filed an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and initiated an investigation into the matter.
Rakesh Mhatre, a relative of the deceased, expressed, "On Friday evening, my sister-in-law Jayanti was on the first floor watching the Ganpati immersion nearby. During the Visarjan, she inadvertently touched a loose wire. Additionally, two children also accidentally came into contact with the wire, resulting in them falling. The locals swiftly intervened and saved the children. The locals also attempted to rescue my sister-in-law and rushed her to the hospital. She was declared dead at the hospital."
Mhatre emphasised, "The power distribution company is responsible for this incident and we urge the police to take appropriate action against the individuals responsible. We have suffered a grievous loss within our family due to this incident."
Last month, a 30-year-old man died from electrocution at a construction site in Kalyan.
Accordign to the police, a case has been registered against two contractors for negligence.
The victim has been identified as Pintu Bhayyalal Kewat.He was doing painting work at the construction site at Kalyan East when he died from an electric shock on Tuesday morning.
"A probe showed that two contractors had not taken precautionary measures. The worker had also not been provided with any safety gear to avert such mishaps," said Sampat Phadol of Manpada police station in Dombivali.
"Electrical contractor Mohan Naidu and painting contractor Mehboob Abdul Rashid Hussain have been booked for negligence under the Indian Penal Code but no arrests have been made yet," he said.
