Four undertrial prisoners lodged in Aadharwadi Jail have been booked for allegedly assaulting a police constable inside the Kalyan Sessions Court in Maharashtra premises on September 24, police said.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 1:45 pm, when a government escort vehicle was parked in the court’s parking lot to produce accused persons in various pending cases.

Constable Kishore Navnath Petare, who was on prisoner escort duty, instructed the inmates to maintain order as the vehicle was overcrowded.

The accused - Akash Ramjilal Valmiki, Ganesh alias Shalu Dharamveer Marothia, Yoginder alias Bholu Dharamveer Marothia, and Vivek Shankar Yadav – allegedly abused him, grabbed his uniform collar, and attacked him with slaps and punches. One of the accused also hurled a food container at the constable, causing an injury to his right ear.

Based on Petare’s complaint, a case has been registered at Mahatma Phule Chowk Police Station, Kalyan West, under Sections 132, 121, 115(2), 352, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is being carried out by Sub-Inspector Vinod Patil.
