Mumbai Police have arrested six individuals for allegedly abducting a man, assaulting him, and forcing him to hand over gold and money worth nearly Rs 80 lakh, police said on Friday.

According to the LT Marg Police, the incident took place on October 14 at around 10:30 pm. The victim was standing outside his residence in Old Hanuman Galli in south Mumbai, when he was forcibly taken in a car by three unknown men and a woman.


The police said that they drove him to an unidentified building in Parel and confined him in a room on the third floor. There, two other accused, Tarak Maiti and Raghunath Maiti, confronted the victim over an old gold-related business dispute and physically assaulted him.



In an alleged planned conspiracy, the accused reportedly beat and threatened the victim into handing over 591 grams of gold, valued at Rs 76.23 lakh, Rs 15,000 via UPI and Rs 2.99 lakh through a cheque. 

"The total value of the loot amounted to Rs 79.37 lakh," said an official.

Following a complaint filed by the victim, police registered a case under Sections 140(2), 61(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) began an investigation into the matter.

Following a probe, the police arrested all six accused who were identified as Tarak Maiti 35, a goldsmith by professsion from Nerul in Navi Mumbai, Raghunath Maiti, 34, a goldsmith from Nerul in Navi Mumbai, Deepak Mahadik, 45, a dog trainer from Worli, Alka Mahadik, 35, a garment seller from Sewri, Rahul Dive, 30, a driver from Govandi and Sunil Gorai, 28, a goldsmith from Kalbadevi, police said.

An official said that a team of police officials was also successful in recovering the property and 591 grams of gold worth approximately Rs 75 lakh and Rs 2.35 lakh in cash was recovered from the accused.

All six accused in the case have been remanded to police custody till October 18, 2025, said an official, adding that further investigations were underway.
