A woman and a four-year-old boy were killed after a truck knocked them down outside a hospital in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Friday, reported the PTI.
The accident occurred near the main gate of Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital in Bhiwandi town of Thane on Thursday, an official said.
The victim woman was identified as Soni Bano, a resident of the Shantinagar area. She had come to the hospital for her brother's treatment, a police official said on Friday.
The accident took place when she was crossing the road with her four-year-old relative in tow while a speeding truck knocked them down, the official from Nizampura police station said, according to the PTI.
The boy was rushed to the civil hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries later in the night, he said.
The official said that the truck was seized and the driver was later detained, and a case has been registered against him for rash and negligent driving.
"The investigation is ongoing, and we are examining the CCTV footage and recording the eyewitness accounts," he added, the news agency reported.
On-duty traffic constable knocked down by crane truck in Navi Mumbai, dies
Meanwhile, in an another incident, a 41-year-old on-duty traffic police constable died after he was knocked down by a hydra vehicle (crane truck) in Navi Mumbai city of Maharashtra on Thursday morning, an official said, as per the PTI.
The traffic police constable was identified as Bablu Patil. He was reportedly on traffic regulation duty near Mahape bridge in the satellite city when a recklessly driven crane truck knocked him down at around 10.30 am, he said.
Babu Patil died on the spot and his body was sent for post-mortem examination to a government hospital, informed the official.
The police said that an FIR under relevant provisions of the new legal code BNS and the Motor Vehicles Act was registered against the heavy vehicle's driver.
The driver was detained after the accident and sent for medical examination, he said.
The police said they suspected the driver was intoxicated.
Further investigations were underway, an official said.
