In regards to the clashes between two groups that took place on January 21 in Mira Road's Naya Nagar area, police have registered eight offences and two offences under the IT Act. Till now, around 19 people have been arrested and thorough investigation is underway, PTI reported.


"CCTV footage is being thoroughly investigated. Questioning is underway, and further actions will be taken, Additional Commissioner of Police Shrikant Pathak said while speaking with PTI. 


On Sunday, communal clashes broke out between two groups in Mira Road near Mumbai after a procession was taken out to mark the opening of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. 


Amid communal tensions in parts of Thane district, police in the Mumbai region have asked people not to circulate on social media fake news or messages which may hurt people's religious sentiments. The instruction intends to promote community harmony. 

WhatsApp group admins as well as users of Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms should take care not to share anything provocative. Action would be taken against those circulating such content. One such "mischievously edited" viral video spread fake news that the Mira Road railway station had been set on fire, PTI report said. 

The cyber crime wing of Mumbai police on Wednesday warned city residents not to post any kind of videos, photos, or use as status any message, which may hurt religious sentiments of any person. The Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar police issued an order requesting group administrators not to share anything linked to confrontations on social media. 

A number of attacks on commercial establishments and processions taken out to celebrate the consecration of Lord Ram's idol at the Ayodhya temple have been reported from Thane district in the last few days. Thane district of Maharashtra has been rocked by a fresh incident of vandalism as unidentified individuals targeted shops, escalating the ongoing clashes following the consecration of Lord Ram's idol in Ayodhya, officials said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, "illegal" roadside stalls in Naya Nagar area were demolished by the local civic body using bulldozers. The action was taken a day after Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis warned of strict action against rioters.

Members of two communities clashed during a vehicle rally organised in the Muslim-dominated Naya Nagar locality in the district on Sunday night, ahead of the Ram Mandir inauguration on Monday.
