In a tragic incident, 22-year-old Sanskriti Kotian, daughter of Anil Kotian of Kotian Caterers, lost her life after a huge brick fell on her head in Jogeshwari's RR Thakur Marg area in Mumbai.

"She left home around 9:30 in the morning, like every day, to go to her work. On her way, suddenly, a cement block from a construction site fell on her head, killing her on the spot," said Arun Kotian, uncle of the deceased.

The last rites for Sanskriti were not performed on Wednesday by her family, her body has been kept in the mortuary of Balasaheb Thackeray Hospital.

An FIR was also not registered by the police on Wednesday.

"We have been at Meghwadi Police Station since morning. The construction site belongs to Shraddha Developers. However, the police have not registered an FIR yet. They have just made one call to the owner of the developer group — Bhavesh Sangrahka — who told them that he is in Delhi and can come only tomorrow (Thursday)," said Arun.

On the other hand, Senior PI Sudhakar Humbe told mid-day, "We have filed the FIR and mentioned the sections that are permitted as per law. The death happened due to negligence and not because of malicious intention. However, the family is insisting that it happened with an intention to kill. We cannot do anything that does not fit into the law. And they are not ready to sign the FIR. So, it is taking time."
