Mumbai Police on Thursday said that it has busted a bike thieves gang and recovered as many as nine expensive motorcycles after arrest of three people in Andheri.

According to the police, the Andheri Police in western suburbs of the city made the arrests of the three men for allegedly stealing expensive motorcycles and recovered bikes worth around Rs 18 lakh.


"Their arrests have helped police solve nine theft cases reported across Mumbai city its suburbs and adjoining Navi Mumbai," said an official.



The police said that the case came to light after a complainant approached Andheri police, stating that his Royal Enfield Classic 350 was stolen between the night of January 13 and the morning of January 14 from near a BMC office in Gundavali area of Andheri East.

Following the complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Technical surveillance and night operations

During the investigation, the crime detection team used technical analysis and information from informers to trace the suspects to the Sakinaka and Sangharsh Nagar areas.

Police learnt that the accused were active at night and did not return home for days.

After sustained night surveillance over two to three days, the team successfully detained the suspects and recovered multiple stolen sports bikes during questioning, said a police official.

The accused were identified as Omkar Sunil Phasge (22), a rickshaw driver, Sagar Rahul Gaikwad (19), unemployed and Kartik Vishnu Haske (18), a student, the official said.

All three are residents of Sangharsh Nagar area of Sakinaka.

Bikes recovered by the police

The police officials said that the recovered motorcycles include Royal Enfield Classic 350, Pulsar N400, Yamaha MT-15, KTM Duke and Yamaha RX100. These bikes were linked to theft cases registered at Andheri, Vile Parle, Bhandup, Ghatkopar, Antop Hill, Kalachowki, Kharghar and Parel police stations.

The operation

Police officials said the successful operation was carried out under the guidance of senior Mumbai Police officials including Gajanan Pawar, Umesh Machinder, Vinod Patil, PSI Perkale, ASI Pednekar, HC Shinde, HC Pujari, HC Ghadvale, PC Mhatre, PC Londhe, PC Patil, PC More, PHC Vishal Pisal. The Andheri police crime detection team was praised for its coordination, technical expertise and fieldwork, which led to the recovery of stolen property and the solving of multiple cases.
