A 15-year-old girl who was initially believed to have died by suicide on June 24 was allegedly pushed to her death by her 17-year-old boyfriend after she asked him to get back together during a conversation on the terrace of her building in Bhandup West, police said.

The minor boy has been booked by the Bhandup police on Monday night.

According to the police, the girl fell from the 30th floor of her building after meeting the boy, a former schoolmate. Police said a quarrel broke out between the two, following which the boy allegedly pushed her off the terrace.

The incident was initially recorded as a suicide based on the boy’s statement and preliminary findings. However, police said CCTV footage, witness statements, and dummy trajectory tests indicated the girl was pushed.

On the day of the incident, the girl met the boy, also a resident of Bhandup, on the terrace of her building near the water tank to talk, police said. During the conversation, she told him about her low marks in school and how she was upset over being teased by other boys. She then asked him if they could get back together, but he refused. An argument broke out, following which the boy allegedly pushed her off the terrace, causing her death.

According to the FIR, the boy also threw away the girl’s mobile phone after the incident to destroy evidence and divert suspicion from himself.

A FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Juvenile Justice Act against the boy. Officials said the case will be handled before the Juvenile Justice Board since the accused is a minor.
