A 34-year-old man was beaten to death by his cousin and an aide on suspicion of stealing a mobile phone in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/navi-mumbai-murder-accused-apprehended-after-13-years-on-the-run-23587712" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Navi Mumbai</a>, police said on Friday, reported news agency PTI.
The attack took place in a public toilet in the Turbhe area on Thursday morning, an official said.
A case has been registered under section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused Arjun Adagale (55) and one Vidhan Mandal, who works at the public toilet, reported PTI.
According to a <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-27-year-old-woman-found-murdered-in-navi-mumbai-home-23547692" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">preliminary investigation</a>, Adagale allegedly suspected his cousin, Sudhakar Patole, of stealing his mobile phone.
"Adagale and his friend Mandal brought the victim out of his house and took him to a public toilet, where they consumed alcohol. The accused allegedly brutally assaulted Patole and killed him on the spot," an official from the Turbhe police station said, reported PTI.
He said that the duo fled the scene, and the body was later recovered and sent for a postmortem.
The Turbhe police have launched a manhunt for the accused and are examining <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-husband-two-women-held-over-murder-of-navi-mumbai-housewife-two-contract-killers-at-large-23548618" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">CCTV footage</a> from the area to trace their movements.
<h2>Farmer, son murdered in Maharashtra's Latur; 2 persons held</h2>
In another case, two persons allegedly killed an elderly farmer and his son at their farm in Maharashtra's Latur district over a land issue, police said on Wednesday, reported PTI.
The duo was found dead at Rudhda village in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-35-year-old-navi-mumbai-man-stabs-wife-to-death-in-seawoods-over-alleged-extramarital-affair-held-23596506" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Ahmadpur tehsil</a> on Tuesday, they said, adding that two accused persons have been arrested.
Shivraj Nivrutti Surnar (70) and his son Vishwanath Shivraj Surnar (20) had, as usual, gone to sleep in a hut on their farm around 9.30 pm on Monday, reported PTI.
Later, the attackers struck them repeatedly on the face, neck and head with sharp weapons. The attackers then dumped the bodies near a water tank in the village, an official from Ahmadpur police station said.
After being alerted on Tuesday morning, police rushed to the spot. Forensic experts, a <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-man-bludgeoned-to-death-in-navi-mumbai-mob-beats-up-attacker-23562723" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">dog squad</a>, fingerprint specialists, and a mobile tracking team were called to collect evidence from the crime scene, he said.
The police have arrested Narsingh Bhaurao Shinde (60) and Kerba Narsingh Shinde (22), residents of the same village, for allegedly killing the farmer and his son over a land issue, the official said, reported PTI.
The bodies were handed over to the relatives after the post-mortem.
Last year, an elderly couple from the same <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mother-watches-while-boyfriend-rapes-murders-her-two-year-old-23547543" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">village</a> was attacked similarly, according to locals.
