The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/thane-three-held-for-stealing-gold-from-women-bus-passengers-valuables-worth-rs-3-22-lakh-recovered-23651233" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane Police in Maharashtra</a> on Wednesday said that it arrested a suspected repeat offender allegedly involved in chain-snatching and theft cases, with police claiming to have detected 22 cases across Thane, Navi Mumbai, Ahmednagar and Gujarat.
Police said gold jewellery worth Rs 22.30 lakh has been recovered during the investigation.
The accused has been identified as Mohammed Shakir Sayyed alias Mammu Irani, a resident of Mumbra.&nbsp;
According to police, the accused was arrested following an investigation by the Thane Crime Branch&rsquo;s Property Cell has&nbsp; into multiple offences reported in the Thane region.
Police said he was identified through technical analysis and information received from confidential sources. During interrogation, investigators allegedly found his involvement in several offences and subsequently linked him to cases registered across <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/thane-man-loses-rs-10-14-lakh-in-online-stock-trading-scam-after-youtube-lure-23650793" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">multiple police jurisdictions</a>.
<h2>Cases detected across several areas</h2>
According to the police press note, the cases detected include offences registered at Vishnunagar, Shrinagar, Wagle Estate, Badlapur East, Vitthalwadi, Kopri, Rambaug, Kalwa and Shil-Daighar, among other police stations.
The investigation also linked the accused to cases in Kalyan, Bhiwandi, Navi Mumbai, Ahmednagar and Gujarat, police said.
<h2>Gold jewellery worth Rs 22.30 lakh recovered</h2>
Police said the accused allegedly targeted <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/thane-woman-arrested-for-allegedly-cheating-19-home-buyers-tenants-of-rs-1-36-crore-23649447" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">victims in different areas</a> and was involved in chain-snatching and other property-related offences.
The Crime Branch has recovered gold jewellery valued at Rs 22,30,500 during the investigation.
<h2>Probe underway</h2>
Investigators are now examining the accused&rsquo;s movements and his alleged <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/kalyan-drug-trafficking-case-thane-police-seize-heroin-worth-rs-3-41-crore-invoke-mcoca-23649376" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">involvement in cases</a> outside the Thane commissionerate jurisdiction.
The police are also probing whether he was acting alone or had associates involved in the offences.
Further investigation is underway, officials said.
