Authorities of various colleges have allegedly opened accounts of teachers without submission of their Know Your Customer (KYC) forms, with the Mumbai District Centre Co-operative Bank (MDCB). The KYC forms are important to credit salaries.
While the bank officials claim they haven't credited the salaries of those who are yet to fill the KYC forms, the Teachers' Democratic Front has moved court against the Maharashtra government's decision of opening the accounts. Some teachers allege that the college authorities are hand-in-glove with MDCCB.
"The bank, along with the colleges, are indulging in fraud. Teachers have complained to us that they have received their July month salary in the MDCC bank accounts, which they haven't opened," said Janardan Jangle, president of the Teachers' Democratic Front (TDF).
Jangle added, "We have written letters to the colleges seeking clarification on this, and soon we will approach Mumbai police to take action against the bank for cheating."
Did not know Dilip Deshmukh, General Secretary, Shikshak Shiketar Sthaniya Lokkadhikar Samiti, TS Bafna junior college in Malad, was shocked when he came to know that the college was able to open his bank account without his knowledge.
He said, "On August 5, I have my written complaint to the college principal seeking their clarification on it."
Deepa Sharma, principal of TS Bafna Junior College said, "We have recently received Deshmukh's complaint, which we will address soon."
Another teacher from Tulsi Hindi High School, Parel, also claimed that his account was opened without his knowledge. "On August 1, the school informed me that they have opened my account," said M F Munjevar.
Bank speaks "We have opened the accounts of 20,000 teachers based on the details provided by schools and junior colleges, out of which we have transferred salary in the accounts of around 15,745 teachers, from whom we have received KYC forms. However we have not yet credited the salary of teachers who are yet to fill the KYC form. The teachers' union is frustrated that we are successfully handling teachers' salary accounts, which is why they are levelling the false allegations against us," said Pravin Darekar, chairman of the Mumbai District Central Cooperative Bank Limited.
After a GR On June 3, the state education department issued a Government Resolution that all teaching and non-teaching staff have to transfer their salary accounts from nationalised banks to the Mumbai District Co-operative Bank, and they have to be active from July 1. Following this the Teachers' Democratic Front (TDF) filed a writ petition in the Bombay High Court complaining that the bank had limited branches, few ATMs and lack of facilities. While the hearing of the case is still on, teachers allege that their salary accounts got opened.
