Mumbai’s Covid-19 cases show a rise again, fatalities dip slightly

Mumbai’S test positivity rate (TPR) saw a marginal dip but remained above 1 on Tuesday along with a marginal dip in COVID-19 fatalities. However, the city saw a rise in number of new cases. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, 367 new cases were reported on Tuesday along with five deaths. 


The TPR was 1.28per cent. On August 19, the city recorded the second wave’s lowest TPR at 0.53per cent after which the graph has been gradually going up.  


All the five deceased had comorbidities and were above 60 years of age. The doubling rate continued to improve for the second consecutive  day and was at 1,286 days on Tuesday.


The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 408 people recovered and were discharged on Tuesday. 

The state’s COVID-19 cases saw a significant rise on Tuesday as they went above 3,000. As per the state health department report, 3,530 cases were reported. The state also saw a significant rise in the number of deaths and saw 52 on Tuesday as per the state report. The state’s test positivity rate marginally improved and was 11.57 per cent while the recovery rate was 97.06 per cent. 

The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 3,685 people recovered and got discharged on Tuesday. Currently the state has 49,671 active cases. 
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) witnessed a significant dip in new cases on Tuesday.  As per the state report, 724 cases were reported in the MMR including cases from Mumbai. 

Apart from Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli saw 66 cases, followed by Raigad which registered 59 cases. Navi Mumbai registered 52 cases while Thane had 38 cases. Vasai-Virar saw 20 and Mira-Bhayandar reported 15 cases.  MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 7 COVID-19 fatalities on Tuesday. While Panvel registered three deaths, highest in MMR after Mumbai, Raigad had two deaths.  Navi Mumbai and Vasai-Virar had one death each.
