On May 3, the BMC declared the room illegal and demolished it after which Shaikh gave another room to Almeida. According to Shaikh, Almeida refused to give him the deposit of Rs 3 lakh and also did not pay him the rent. Moreover, he started demanding Rs 10 lakh from Shaikh, which he said he had spent in revamping and decorating the room. Meanwhile, one Sunil Metkari forcibly occupied the room after threatening Shaikh. When Shaikh registered a complaint in the Sakinaka police station, sub-inspector Krishna Chavhan, instead of acting against Metkari and Almeida, threatened Shaikh, he alleged. "I tried to register a complaint against Almeida and Metkari but Chavhan threatened me that he would implicate me in a false case," said Shaikh. Fearing arrest, on January 14 this year Shaikh moved the sessions court, seeking interim anticipatory bail. The court issued a notice to the Sakinaka police, asking them to be present in court on January 17. Theft case Further, on January 16, the police registered an FIR against Shaikh's son Shahnawaz (23) after Metkari alleged that he robbed goods worth Rs 10 lakh including laptop, camera, music system, etc, from the disputed room. He was produced in court. But after hearing the argument of the defence lawyer Subhash Yadav, the magistrate passed strict remarks against the Sakinaka police. "The present complainant, Metkari, does not have any relation with this matter and Shahnawaz was unnecessarily arrested. The police also ignored the order of the sessions court," said Yadav. "The honourable court passed the rare remarks on Sakinaka police. The police registered an FIR against my client to pressurise him to withdraw the case against Metkari," said Yadav. Court order On January 16, Magistrate Kedar Joglekar of Andheri metropolitan court said that (copy with MiD DAY) "already there are written complaints of a serious nature by the father of the accused and as usual the Sakinaka police sat back and did not take any action on the said complaint. u00a0 They ignored the earlier complaints of the father of the accused without verifying the truth in the complaint of the present complainant, and unnecessarily arrested the present accused. This is very serious. PSI Chavhan should be saddled with punishment. The matter should have been reported to the commissioner of police and the Human Rights Commission. The Sakinaka police station is habitual in helping the law breakers." A 37-year-old woman hadu00a0 accused then sub-inspector, Vinay Ghorpade of Sakinaka police station, of raping her in May 2008. According to the woman, the Sakinaka police arrested her son in a theft case. She met Ghorpade who allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 to release her son and also raped her in the police station. Sakinaka police allegedly registered a false FIR (atrocity) against Congress leader Zakir Ahmed for abusing a man during a landslide in 2005. The other side "I am aware of the court order. But I did nothing wrong. I registered an appropriate FIR with the appropriate sections. Even the court has not commented on my FIR," said Krishna Chavhan, investigation officer.
