When a pregnant woman onboard a local began experiencing labour pain, the train was halted at Borivli and the stationmaster dialed 108 for the state’s ambulance service

Prompt response by the state’s emergency ambulance service helped a pregnant woman deliver safely while she was onboard the Nallasopara-Churchgate train on Friday afternoon. Around 12 pm, Sushma Navraj Gurang (23), a resident of Nallasopara, boarded the train to visit her doctor in Santacruz for a check up. Gurang, who was nine months pregnant, suddenly began to feel intense labour pain.

Dr Tousif Nadaf helped Gaurang deliver in the luggage compartment of the train, after the Borivli station master dialed 108 for help. The mother and newborn were shifted to KCL Bhansali Mahanagar Palika Maternity Home post delivery. Pic/Nimesh Dave
