In yet another shameful stab at safety of children in the state, two minors were raped and molested on Monday and Wednesday respectively in the eastern suburbs.
In the first case, registered at Chembur police station, the accused, Ashutosh Pratap Katalkar (19), allegedly snuck inside the house of his eight-year-old neighbour when her parents weren&rsquo;t at home.

A police officer said, &ldquo;Katalkar was afraid that he would get caught so he decided to bring the child to his residence, where he sodomised her. The incident took place on Saturday and came to light after the girl complained of severe pain in her private parts.&rdquo;
When the child was taken to hospital, doctors confirmed that she had been raped. Her family appro-ached the police on Monday, and the accused was booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections pertaining to rape and unnatural sex, as well as relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Katalkar worked as a wireman in Lonavala, which is where he fled after the crime. &ldquo;He was brought to the police station from Lonavala. He confessed to the crime and was arrested on Tuesday evening. He was produced in court and has been remanded in police custody,&rdquo; the officer added.
In the second case, a 15-year-old admitted at Vikhroli&rsquo;s Modi Hospital on Tuesday was molested by a ward boy the following morning. The accused, identified as Ajinkya Gamre (20), entered the ward early yesterday while she was asleep, and touched her private parts, cops said.
Later the same day, the teenager asked her family to take a discharge from the hospital, and after reaching home she confided in her grandmother. A case was registered with Vikhroli police, who arrested Gamre the same day.
Senior Inspector Dinesh Desai confirmed the incident and stated that the accused has been arrested and booked under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty) along with section 8 of the POCSO Act.
