According to the police, on Sunday afternoon the woman managed to leave her room on the pretext of going to the toilet. She went to a nearby PCO booth instead and called her father on his mobile phone. She managed to inform him that she was in Mumbai.

The father notified the local police in UP. Cops there forwarded the message to Delhi police, who then informed Social Service branch in Mumbai. The PCO was traced and cops asked the owner and locals regarding the whereabouts of the woman. One person said he had seen her in a neighbouring chawl.
