Two BMC officials, Gautam Pawar and Samir Sawant, were caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for taking a bribe of Rs 25, 000 yesterday, after a shop owner complained against them.u00a0 The complainant, who owns two shops at Crawford Market, approached the ACB after he was asked to pay a bribe of Rs 30, 000 by the accused. Earlier, the civic official in-charge of Crawford market had served the owner a notice for illegally expanding his shops by a foot. The owner then went to the office of assistant superintendent, market department, BMC, where he met Pawar, who told him that his licence would be cancelled, if he did not fork over Rs 15,000 to operate each shop. The owner approached ACB officials, who asked him to negotiate with Pawar, and bring the amount down to Rs 25,000. When Pawar, accompanied by Sawant, arrived at the complainant's shop to collect the revised bribe, the ACB officials were lying in wait for them. The two were caught red-handed and taken into custody.u00a0
