Ahmednagar gang rape: CM offers Rs 5 lakh to kin, trial to be fast-tracked

The Monsoon Session of state legislature was off to a stormy start yesterday as the opposition created a ruckus, over the brutal gang rape and killing of a minor girl in Ahmednagar district. The state government announced financial assistance to the victim’s family, and decided to fast track the trial by appointing a seasoned special prosecutor.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told the lower house that the accused were arrested, and the matter will be heard in a fast-track court. Ujjwal Nikam will be the public prosecutor, he said. He also announced Rs 5 lakh financial help to the victim’s family. According to the CM, DNA samples of the victim and the accused have been sent for forensic tests.
