Though still under development, the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is being planned as one of India’s most seamlessly connected gateways, with access options spanning highways, Metros, buses, suburban rail, cabs, and even water transport.

Road connectivity
The airport will be directly linked to the Sion–Panvel Highway, Amra Marg (west), and NH-4B (east). Two new corridors — the Ulwe Coastal Road (5.8 km, R1400 crore) and the Kharghar Coastal Road (9.6 km, R300 crore) — are under construction and expected to be ready by early 2026. In addition, a 9-km elevated access corridor will provide a signal-free approach to the airport.
Bus services
MSRTC is preparing express routes from Dadar, Thane, Vashi, and Panvel. NMMT, meanwhile, plans to deploy a fleet of high-frequency electric buses, with the possibility of dedicated lanes to cut travel times.
Metro connectivity
The Belapur–Pendhar Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 is already functional. More significantly, Metro Line 8, or the Gold Line, will directly link Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) with NMIA — creating India’s first airport-to-airport metro link. CIDCO has already invited tenders to review the detailed project report (DPR). The Yellow Line 2B (DN Nagar–Mandale), with a terminal at Mankhurd, will also serve as a key interchange for travellers heading to NMIA.
Suburban rail
Currently, CBD Belapur and Bamandongri are the closest suburban nodes. The upcoming Targhar station, located right next to NMIA, is expected to open soon, providing a direct and affordable rail option.
Water transport
For the first time in India, NMIA will have water-taxi services in a phased rollout post-opening, offering passengers a faster and scenic alternative to road traffic.
Last-mile access:
Passengers will be supported with app-based cab aggregators, prepaid auto stands, and coordinated last-mile solutions being developed by NMMC and CIDCO
Authorities say that once complete, NMIA will offer travellers an unprecedented mix of transport options, positioning it as India’s most connected airport
