Alleged weapons supplier held in Dadar

A weapons supplier hailing from Jharkhand has been arrested with four firearms and over two dozen cartridges in Dadar, police said yesterday.

A weapons supplier hailing from Jharkhand has been arrested with four firearms and over two dozen cartridges in Dadar, police said yesterday.

Acting on a tip-off, a trap was laid near Swaminarayan Mandir at Dadar yesterday when the accused Aslam Musafir Ansari arrived.

Ansari (35), was frisked and two 0.9 mm country-made pistols, two revolvers and 25 live cartridges were found in his possession, the official added.

The accused had come by train to Dadar yesterday afternoon and was to deliver the weapons to a buyer but nobody turned up to take the consignment, the official added.

Ansari was produced before a local court yesterday which remanded him to police custody till March 4.

The investigators are alsou00a0 probing if the accused was associated with any underworld gang, police said adding further probe was on.
