An angry mob handed over a man to the Malabar Hill police station on Saturday after thrashing him for molesting a 38-year-old woman on her way to buy groceries.

According to the police, the victim, a 38-year-old woman from Grant Road, boarded a bus to Malabar Hill on Saturday morning.

While in the bus, a man later identified as Uttam Singh Negi (36) tried to touch her on the pretext of buying a ticket.

Initially, the woman ignored his advances and alighted from the bus at Malabar Hill. Refusing to back down, Negi also alighted and started chatting with her.

The woman told the police that he then forcibly held her hand, at which she slapped him and started yelling, which caused passers-by to gather.

People thrashed Negi after the women recounted his behaviour to them and then dragged him to the Malabar Hill police station.

Officials told MiD DAY that Negi, a resident of Navghar was arrested on the charge of molestation.
