At 130, Mumbai reports highest daily rise in Covid-19 cases since February

Mumbai on Thursday recorded 130 new Covid-19 cases, the highest daily rise since February, an official from the BMC said. It took the tally of infections recorded in India’s financial capital to 10,60,317.  With this the city’s daily rise in infections touched the 100-mark for the third day in a row. On Wednesday, Mumbai had reported 117 cases, and 100 cases the day before.


No pandemic-related death was recorded in the city on Thursday, keeping the death toll unchanged at 19,563. The number of recoveries rose to 10,40,072 after 90 patients were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours. Of the latest cases, two patients have been hospitalised, but they are not on oxygen support, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said. The city currently has 682 active cases.


With 8,031 swab samples tested in the past 24 hours, the total of tests conducted so far rose to 1,69,30,365. As per the BMC’s bulletin, only 15 out of 26,009 hospital beds are occupied, and the average recovery rate is 98 per cent. The overall growth rate of Covid-19 cases was 0.008 per cent between April 28 and May 4.


Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Thursday recorded 233 new cases and no deaths, the state health department said. The state now has 1,109 active patients. The state’s Covid tally rose to 78,78,596, while the death toll remained unchanged at 1,47,845. Maharashtra had recorded 188 coronavirus cases and zero fatality on Wednesday. The districts of Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Latur, Hingoli, Osmanabad, Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia recorded zero active cases.

As many as 173 people recovered since the previous evening, taking the total number of recovered patients to 77,29,642. The state’s recovery rate stands at 98.11 per cent. As many as 26,439 coronavirus tests were conducted on Thursday, taking the total of samples tested to 8,02,70,696.
