The massive redevelopment project of the BDD chawls has led to differences between the Shiv Sena and BJP. Sources said the BJP thinks that 430 sq ft is enough for every tenant in the redeveloped homes. But, the Sena is fiercely opposing this since it wants 500 sq ft to be allotted to every tenant, because it had promised the space to its voters in the chawls.

Nearly 15,000 families reside in around 200 BDD chawl buildings, which are spread over 92 acres of land in Worli, Lower Parel and Naigaon in south and central Mumbai. Pic/Bipin Kokate
